Filas of Southern California True Brazilian Imports
|

The history about the birth of the Fila Brasileiro breed is very foggy and full of theories, which from day
to night are altered or modified, as new facts show up and new scientific discoveries are made,
especially in the genetics field. It is logic that these discoveries are made in a huge way in relation to
other animal species, but not in relation to the canine species, and never, really, in the canine breed
called the Fila Brasileiro.
What exists, as a fact, and not as a supposition, is that the FB was "created" in Brazilian soil, and its
development, as it has been admitted by the majority of "experts", and also by breeders, was due to a
very important intervention by the human being, who intervened in matings, chosen by men, who choose
when a puppy (puppies) should survive, or procreate, etc.
Another important part in the shaping and development of the breed was delegated to nature itself,
through a natural selection, which worked independently from the racial characteristics. It gave to the
strongest and to the "dominants" the chance to breed a female (females) in heat, acting in this way, as
a kind of "intermediate selection", something between natural and artificial selection, guided by the
human hand, that happened mostly in the ranches. This is the most accepted theory, which has been
less contested ( but still in doubt) by the FB breeders.
While breeding dogs, and in a special way the Fila Brasileiro breed, as it happens when breeding other
animal species, there are commercial competitive groups, and these groups have divergent theories,
with one or more versions about the history (or histories) and characteristics of the dog.
The theory of one of these groups, as it has been stated through one of its members, is that the
selection and development of the FB breed would have been done, almost exclusively, through the laws
of the "natural selection of the species", and it looks like that this theory has been used in his theses for
his Vet certificate. Very well, this brilliant gentleman has created his own theory, based almost
exclusively in the "natural selection" theory, which he preached, and is still preached, saying that only the
most capables and strong may survive and reproduce. During the continuation of his explanations, he
gets a little bit lost, and suddenly, faithful to the convictions (or believes) of his ideological group, he
starts to proclaim that the black Fila Brasileiro would not be "pure", saying that the black color would be
harmful to the individual, as Brazil is a tropical country, and that the black coat would be prejudicial to
the individual on account of the tropical heat being resented by a mamiferous of black coat, and so on.
He suggested that the black FB would be extinct for not adapting himself to the inclemancy of the tropic
climate.
